Over 30 laws and 100 schedules of regulations, rules, standards, codes and bylaws govern health care in Alberta. The official statutes and regulations must be consulted for all purposes of interpreting and applying the law.

The Health Professions Act Internal Link  (HPA) and the Dental Hygienists Profession Regulation ExternalLink govern the dental hygienists profession in Alberta. The HPA is umbrella legislation governing all regulated health professions in Alberta. The Dental Hygienists Profession Regulation addresses profession-specific requirements.

 

Registered dental hygienists are expected to comply with the various pieces of health legislation together with dental hygiene-specific Standards of Practice and Guidelines.
